Malaysia is expected to experienced prolonged hot weather until August, following the monsoon transition season.
According to a report by Harian Metro, Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad shared that the hot weather will affect all the states, but the states in the North and East Coast will feel it the most.
“The area in the North is worse and most noticeable at some areas bordering Thailand, reaching temperatures of over 37 degrees Celsius.”
“We expect this situation to last until August because of the monsoon transition. After August, rain is expected to return,” he said.
Earlier, the Jeli district in Kelantan recorded hot weather during a Level 2 heat wave where the daily temperature is expected to reach up to 40 degrees Celsius for 3 consecutive days.
The Department of Meteorology (MetMalaysia) said that 15 other areas in the peninsula are at Level 1, which is the alert category.
Nik Nazmi added that the prolonged heat without rain will cause some areas to be affected by haze.
“Some areas recorded unhealthy Air Pollution Index (IPU) including Tanah Merah and Cheras.”
“When the weather is hot, forest fires, especially in peatland areas, can easily occur, which can contribute to the haze problem being worse. To curb the problem, we are working with various agencies involving several ministries to monitor open burning,” he explained.
We genuinely hope that everyone follows the advice shared by KKM on how to remain healthy throughout this insane weather.
