When it is the Raya season, children often expect to receive duit raya from their family members and people they know. However, it appears as if some kids take this practice for granted and expect even random strangers to give them money.
Recently, in a video which has gone viral, a Malaysian woman shared how a random child had gone up to her to ask her for money while she was eating in a restaurant.
In the text within the video, the woman wrote, “At first, the boy behind me was shouting at me and asking for duit raya. I played dumb.”
As if this was not bad enough, when she ignored the boy, he stirred up trouble by telling her that the man sitting in the table behind her was asking for her number and proceeded to tell the man the opposite thing.
After she continued ignoring him, he eventually proceeded to curse at her and spew insults towards her by calling her ‘b*bi’ and saying that she’s eating ‘non-halal’ food.
“I’m using my own money and he’s accusing me of eating non-halal food, as if he’s paying for my meal. These kids are so rude.”
At the end of the video, the kid shifted his attention to a group of men seated behind her and even asked them if he could have a cigarette.
Where are your manners?
The video has since gone viral on Twitter and netizens shared their thoughts on the kid’s antics. Most of them took to the comments to slam him and question where his parents were.
“If a kid is like this at a restaurant, I think it is acceptable for us to scold them. They deserve it. You’re disturbing a stranger and even insulting them. I hope that my kids never turn out like this.”
“Turn around, grip his hand firmly, pull him close and say in a low voice, ‘do you have a problem?’ Until he looks like he is about to cry, don’t let go,” said a user.
