The 15th General Election is less than 2 weeks away, and as we are nearing the historical day, more promises are made and more efforts are shown to gain the votes from the rakyat. Some politicians take this golden opportunity to convince the people that they’re the best people/organisation to be the next government.
But is the GE season the only good time for them to show their efforts? Why now?
The late Nik Aziz used to ponder the same questions in the past and to him, this is not the right way to win the GE. In fact, he bluntly described these actions to gain the votes as “corruption“.
“Why are you only doing this and that, near GE? Giving money to buy votes, that’s corruption, whether you admit it or not.”
An old video of the late Nik Aziz that has recently resurface and is being circulated on social media, the former Menteri Besar of Kelantan spoke about the “drama” during GE season. He said that GE season is not the time for politicians to “buy votes”.
“Buying means there is something to sell, but what’s there to sell? The voices of the rakyat and the votes are not for sale”, he explained.
The late Nik Aziz also said that those who buy votes are people who have no knowledge on religion and democracy. He then made it clear that he was not fond of the idea of someone “buying votes” to lead the country as the consequences can be unimaginable.
“If people like these are going to lead the world, things will get very ugly.”

Nik Aziz passed away in 2015, and despite his absence, his words are still relatable and clearly giving impact to the rakyat, especially those who enjoyed his leadership when he was still alive.
“May God bless the late Nik Aziz. I miss the good old times when he was still leading us.”
“Tok Guru Nik Aziz was loved by everyone, regardless of their races. Whatever he said is true.”
“The person whom I respect the most. He was civilised, humble and he loved everyone.”
Last year, a member of the Democratic Action Party (DAP), RSN Rayer also spoke fondly of the late Nik Aziz in Parliament.
Do you agree with the late Nik Aziz’s take on the efforts to buy votes during GE season? What’s your fondest memory of the former Menteri Besar of Kelantan?
