RON 95 petrol is only meant for Malaysian-registered vehicles. Over the years, many foreign car drivers have been happily filling up their cars with RON95, despite the rules stated at nearly every gas station.
This time, one of the employees of a gas station in Rawang was seen helping a couple fill up RON95 in their Thai-registered Honda Accord. In a viral tweet by @MALAYSIAVIRALL, the staff was seen helping the couple by shaking their car to make more room for the petrol, instead of stopping them from purchasing subsidised petrol for Malaysian vehicles.
“Why is the staff helping them? This is in Rawang, far from the border of Thailand.”
In the hope of attention and a solution, the tweet also mentioned Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Rafizi Ramli, the Minister of Economic Affairs of Malaysia, as well as the Ministry of Domestic Trade.
Netizens, on the other hand, were not happy to see that rules were being violated. Some even urged the Ministry to take action as a reminder to everyone.
“Well, Malaysians are so kind that we always help each other.”
“From what I understand, it’s either the employee did not get the proper explanation from his manager, or he’s also a Singaporean in disguise.”
“I saw a Thai-registered car filling RON95 at RnR Tapah. I was ignored when I confronted the staff. Who knows he might’ve received a ‘bribe’ from the customers.”
“Our enforcement is too weak. It’s time to issue fines to the sellers. When we see such an incident, we record it as evidence and fine the sellers for up to RM10,000.”
According to a report by Majoriti released on January 3, KPDN has since responded and said they have yet to receive any reports regarding the matter. However, following the circulation of the video, they are investigating the matter.
If you can’t change the situation immediately, the best thing to do is to get the evidence and report the matter to the relevant ministries or agencies.
