An act of kindness and generosity can come in many form. They don’t necessarily come with money but sometimes, it can be as simple as providing emotional support, or helping to finish a task.

An ice cream seller in Penang, however, has his own way of showing kindness. In a TikTok clip shared by @ruimeilo, Rui Mei approached the ice cream seller when she saw a signboard on his motorcycle that says,

“Free ice cream for people with disabilities (OKU).”

That’s certainly a piece of good news for the community, and a different way to give them a sense of belonging and inclusivity. Out of curiosity, Rui Mei asked the ice cream seller, “What inspired you to do this?”

His answer may not be what you expected and there is a tragic backstory behind his reason.

“This is for my OKU son”

The ice cream seller, who was there with his wife and their newborn told Rui Mei that he had an OKU son who, unfortunately, has passed away due to an illness, so he decided to give back to the community.

Rui Mei had a surprising plan for the man – she wanted to purchase 50 ice cream for the visitors at the area. She asked the man for an ice cream bell, and she proceeded to ring the bell to attract attention.

Many visitors, particularly children swarmed to the area when they heard the bell that “summoned” them for ice cream.

The ice cream seller and his wife stood at the side and watched happily as more customers approached them. It definitely put a smile on the kids’ faces.

In the end, Rui Mei paid a total of RM170 for all the ice cream that were sold to the customers. The family even took some pictures together with Rui Mei before she left the scene.

The ice cream come in different flavours and the prices vary, but they’re all cheap!

  • Cone (RM3)
  • Bread (RM4)
  • Cup (RM4)

The man is currently running his business in Bagan Ajam, North Seberang Perai district, Penang. You can watch the viral clip below.

To our Penang friends, have you seen this ice cream seller in the area? Do give him a support if you happen to be in the area.
