A Form Three student from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Padang Midin in Terengganu was unable to begin his first day of school this morning (11 January) after he was killed in a road accident.

The victim, who was riding a Honda EX5 motorcycle, was involved in a collision with a Perodua Axia travelling from the opposite direction.

Kuala Terengganu District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohd Noor said the victim, identified as Noor Hazimi Noor Hashim, died at the scene after sustaining severe injuries to multiple parts of his body. He added that the Terengganu police received a call from a member of the public at 7:55 AM reporting an accident on Jalan Kepong, Kuala Terengganu.

“The incident is believed to have occurred when the victim’s motorcycle, which was travelling straight, was struck by the Perodua Axia coming from the opposite direction,” he said.

The collision resulted in Hazimi’s death at the scene, while the driver of the Perodua Axia was unharmed

Hazimi’s father, Noor Hashim Puteh, 55, said that at the time of the incident, his son was on his way home to Kampung Belukar Sukai after refuelling at a Caltex petrol station located about five kilometres away. He said Hazimi intended to pick up his 14‑year‑old younger sister before heading to school together on the motorcycle.

“I left the house at 6.35am and received a call about half an hour later. I really did not expect this, as he was used to riding his motorcycle to school,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, according to BERNAMA.
