Passengers from flight MH0165 which was initially heading to Kuala Lumpur from Doha, Qatar, on 24 November (Friday) are allegedly currently being held in Mumbai, India, after having their passports taken from them.

Here’s what we know so far.

Aubrey Leigh Rogers took to the Expats in Kuala Lumpur group to share how she and the passengers have been held in Mumbai for 3 days and counting, with no flights arranged to send them home. All of this began when the flight they were on had to conduct an emergency landing in Mumbai due to engine failure.

She wrote, “130 of us are being held with our passports taken in Mumbai airport since yesterday (24 November). MH0165 from Doha to KL yesterday had engine failure and did an emergency landing in Mumbai at 4pm local time, we were held at the airport for over 8 hours. Some of us were trapped in transfer busses as we were not allowed to enter the terminal and eventually, they took us to a hotel at midnight.”

“(We were) brought back to the airport today at 12 noon, and were told we could fly at 2:30pm. It’s now 11:30pm, we are still in the airport, not allowed to leave, not transferred to other flights, no food, no water, people have collapsed. There are kids and elderly people.”

She added that none of the airlines were helping them and that they are being held hostage with their passports being taken from them. The reason for all of this is still unknown.

Based on her comments on her post, Aubrey and the passengers are still being held in Mumbai and she also explained that 15 passengers with Pakistani and Somalia passports have been disallowed from being taken to a hotel and have been kept at the airport.

We genuinely hope that the passengers are quickly released, are given back their passports and given flights back to their destination.

Do stay tuned for more updates.
