Three local men were arrested for being involved in a fight that took place at a nightclub in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah, Skudai on Monday night (4 January).
According to Johor police chief, Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, the three men, aged 21 to 28, were arrested at 7pm on Wednesday night (6 January), reported Sinar Harian.
“Efforts are being made to track down the other individuals involved. Police had previously received a viral video at 6.30pm yesterday (6 January) involving a fight that broke out at the nightclub and on the sidewalks of nearby shops,” he said.
He added that the fight broke out when one of the visitors’ girlfriends was allegedly harassed hence causing a commotion to erupt. Other visitors then took advantage which escalated the fight further.
The case is now being investigated under Section 148 and Section 324 of the Penal Code and the police are investigating if there are elements of a secret gang involved in the incident.
A video of the incident shows a crowd of people, some with no mask on, in a scuffle with each other while no physical distancing seems to be adhered to.
Following the fight, the police raided the entertainment club at 10pm on 5 January and confiscated several musical instruments. Datuk Ayob Khan said action was taken against the owner of the premises under Section 6 (2) of the Johor State Entertainment and Entertainment Venues Enactment 4/98 for operating without an entertainment license.
“This includes violating the Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs) of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO). Previously, this premise had been subject to the same action four times under the entertainment enactment,” he said.
The police advise all entertainment centres to comply with the SOPs set in place, adding that they would not hesitate to take action against those who violate them.
