The Communications and Digital Ministry has revealed that they will engage with local influencers to encourage them to produce patriotic content in the lead-up to the Merdeka Day celebration.
Minister Fahmi Fadzil shared that this was necessary as the number of patriotic-related content shared on social media, such as TikTok, to appeal to the younger generation had not been encouraging.
“Maybe we can rope in some influencers so they can also take the opportunity to express their love for the country, and we hope (it) can be followed by many young people using social media platforms. However, generally, we found that the Jalur Gemilang has been hoisted at many places.”
“That’s a sign that the spirit of patriotism still exists and I believe that as we gear towards Merdeka Day (on August 31) and Malaysia Day (on September 16) it will be even more lively,” he told reporters yesterday (August 4).
This was in response to a question on the spirit of patriotism among the young generation.
Fahmi said the public is encouraged to alter their social media avatars in conjunction with Merdeka Day and Malaysia Day to promote the celebration further.
“Maybe we can temporarily put an icon or Jalur Gemilang flag to show our patriotic spirit and invite others to do the same. This is one of the minor things we can do to commemorate the national month.”
