A foreign man, suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol, fatally struck an elderly woman who was crossing a road in Penang on Sunday (4 January) at about 11:40 PM.
The body of the 67-year-old woman has since been sent to the Penang Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

According to a report by China Press, it is understood that the driver, reportedly a French national, remained at the scene of the accident while a large crowd gathered around him.
Some concerned passersby attempted to resuscitate the elderly woman using Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). However, paramedics who arrived shortly after confirmed that the victim had passed away.
The driver failed an alcohol test and was placed under remand

Timur Laut District Police Chief, ACP Abdul Rozak Muhammad, shared that preliminary investigations found that the 51-year-old foreign man had hit the elderly woman while she was crossing the road.
Police officers had rushed to the scene after receiving a report and conducted an alcohol test on the foreign man, which found that his blood alcohol content was above the legal limit.
The man has since been arrested and placed under remand. The case is being investigated under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs.
