Two individuals believed to be members of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) were arrested recently for allegedly being involved in extorting “protection money” from a massage centre in Wangsa Maju.

According to reports, the arrests were made after a video went viral on social media showing the individuals allegedly demanding payment from the premises.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus was reported to have confirmed the arrests and said the case is being investigated under Section 385 of the Penal Code.

He added that investigations are also being carried out under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Internal action taken

In a related development, PKR has taken internal action by requesting the two individuals, who are also members of the Federal Territories Residents’ Representative Council (MPPWP), to step down from their positions.

PKR Federal Territories chairman Azman Abidin said the move was taken to ensure that the investigation process would not be disrupted.

Meanwhile, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh had reiterated that she would take a firm stance against any form of cartel activity, particularly in the Federal Territories.

“You pau, you out,” she wrote.

She had earlier ordered an immediate investigation into the incident, directing Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to lodge a police report and stressed that any abuse of power or exploitation of businesses by individuals linked to public bodies would not be tolerated, underscoring the government’s commitment to integrity and accountability.
