We will never in a million years understand what can compel a person to abandoned their elderly parents by the side of the road.

Though, unfortunately, this is something that still happens.

The Penang Kini Facebook page recently shared how an elderly aunty was abandoned, allegedly by her kids, in front of the Logan Heritage Building in Penang.

They wrote, “Abandoned by her kids? The elderly aunty now lives here, with a piece of cardboard (on the floor), there isn’t even a pillow. To eat she has to wait for someone to give her food. She’s fully hunched over. When asked, this elderly woman can only remember certain things then forgets.”

“She said she has kids but she doesn’t know where they are. She has a house but she doesn’t know where it is. Her kids left her here. When asked how long she’s been here, she says she doesn’t know.”

In an effort to help the elderly woman, the Welfare Department was called more than a week earlier though they allegedly have to confirm her citizenship first before assisting her.

“I have called JKM for more than 10 days, JKM replied that I have to wait for JPN (the National Registration Department) to confirm her citizenship. I don’t know how long it will take for JPN to confirm this,”

“I asked that someone please help this elderly woman. Perhaps there’s someone who can give her temporary shelter. Allahuakhbar, so pitiful,” they added.

The aunty is apparently situated just at the doorway of the Logan Heritage Building.

We genuinely hope that someone can provide her with the help that she needs.

What do you think would compel someone to do something this cruel to their elderly parent? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
