On July 26, MARA Chairman Datuk Dr. Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki announced that six Form 5 students from a Maktab Rendah Sains MARA (MRSM) in Melaka were immediately expelled after a disciplinary board confirmed their involvement in an abuse incident.

He also pointed out that the six students weren’t just suspended or recommended for expulsion, but they were immediately removed from the school.

“That’s our responsibility”

Asyraf Wajdi emphasised that the ministry has a zero-tolerance policy toward any form of bullying.

“We will not compromise. MARA’s top management has understood my position from the day I was appointed chairman. They’ve also been instructed not to entertain any appeals, as we’ve consistently made it clear that there is zero tolerance for any form of bullying,” he said.

In response to the incident, the Ministry of Education (MOE) has stated that it is ready to accept expelled students, according to Berita Harian.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the Ministry of Education (MOE) is always open to accepting any student into the national school system.

“If they’re placed in our schools, we have to take them in, that’s our duty. We’re always ready to welcome any of our children and give them the chance to learn. So it’s not a matter of rejecting or denying them opportunities; we’re simply doing what’s right,” she said.

Police are investigating another incident

Meanwhile, commenting on the case involving a Form Two student and a teacher at a secondary school in Kajang, she said the matter has been handed over to the police for investigation.

The video has since gone viral, showing a student and a teacher grabbing each other by the collar, before the student punches the teacher while flashing a sarcastic grin.

“MOE has its own procedures for handling incidents in schools, once the authorities (such as the police) have taken over the investigation, the ministry will fully defer to them. We will also focus on providing counseling support to the affected teacher,” she said.
