Lata Berembun in Pahang is popularly known as one of the most beautiful natural treasures in the state of Pahang and if you are one of the brave souls who have made the arduous trek there then you would know why. Tucked out of the way in a lush forest, it attracts visitors from Malaysia as well as other countries to enjoy the numerous clear waterfalls it houses.

However, it was recently announced that visitors are no longer permitted to enter the area on their own due to the recent rainy season, according to Sinchew. Plus, if you are an avid outdoorsy fan, we’re sorry to inform you that more than 26 recreational parks, forest reserve areas and hiking trails are also closed in Pahang for the safety of visitors. Basically, no nature fun for the time being in Pahang!

Based on a press release by the Pahang State Forestry Department, this temporary closure is expected to last from now until 31 January, 2018 because of the monsoon season that makes the trails unsafe for visitors. With the uncertain weather that has brought many flash floods to our country, it’s best to be safe than sorry!

They’re not joking around either because if any visitor violates this temporary closure, they can be charged under the National Forestry Act 1984. In fact, since a modified 4WD is required to access Lata Berembun and its beautiful treasures, the authorities have the right to tow away your vehicle and even slap you with a maximum fine of RM10,000. Whoa, that’s hefty!

With steep slopes and trails that can go all muddy and wet from heavy rainfall, it can be very dangerous for visitors to be stranded in the forest whenever a thunderstorm hits. It has been known that fogs can appear in the mountains during the midday, which limits visibility too. Not to mention overflowing and raging rivers!

Stay safe, guys and make sure to stay away from these forest recreational parks in the meantime!
