Despite it being something that every woman goes through, it appears that menstrual issues are still considered as taboo and something that is funny instead of serious.
Recently, an e-hailing driver went viral after he had complained about a female passenger he had.
In a post that was shared on Facebook, the driver wrote, “Because of this RM4 fare, my entire car smells fishy.”
“After dropping off this passenger, I noticed that there was a fishy bad smell in my car. I stopped and went to check the back seats and found this stain so I tried to smell it. The smell made me want to vomit.”
“I wasn’t satisfied so I took a cloth to wipe the stain. It turned out to be something red. I suspect it to be period blood. I then Googled what period blood smelt like and it was exactly what it smelt like,” he added.
He said that he then called the platform’s centre and they told me to send his car to wash and send them the receipt.
“Luckily I was able to claim. But the problem is I no longer have any appetite.”
No laughing matter
The post has amassed plenty of attention as netizens were quick to share their thoughts on the matter. The majority sided with the passenger and said that it wasn’t exactly something she was in control of.
“Periods are normal. The people in our homes will face it, our daughters will also get it. Just relax.”
“Did you know that women don’t choose when blood will leak out from their pants. So a leak means that they didn’t realise it and that it was unintentional,” said another netizen.
One user said, “Sorry to interrupt but as someone who works in healthcare, for me, this is not funny but more saddening because it ruins the reputation and the pride of a woman. Nothing wrong with smelling a smell that’s not that nice.”
What are your thoughts on the issue? Does the driver have the right to be as horrified as he was by the situation?
