He attempted to flee after the accident

Further investigation revealed that the incident began with a two-vehicle accident involving a Mercedes and an Alza on 25 May 2025, around 10:25 PM at KM 12 of the Iskandar Highway.

In a statement, Johor Bahru Selatan police chief Raub Selamat said the 37-year-old Mercedes driver allegedly didn’t stop after the crash and attempted to flee, as he was suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol in Taman Tasek.

The driver of the Alza chased after the Mercedes from behind until KM 6.5 of the Johor Bahru–Ayer Hitam Highway. Both vehicles eventually pulled over by the roadside, where a heated argument broke out between the two drivers.

Officers from the Johor Bahru Selatan Traffic Police Division arrived at the scene and brought the Mercedes driver to the station for further action.

Police confirmed he was over the legal alcohol limit

A breathalyser test later confirmed that his blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit. He was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence.

A background check revealed that the Mercedes driver had no prior criminal record. The case is currently being investigated under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving or being in control of a vehicle with a blood alcohol level above the legal limit, and Regulation 6(1) LN166/59 of the same Act for dangerous overtaking or changing lanes.

Raub stressed that firm action will be taken against anyone who breaks the law, with zero tolerance for violations.
