While the uproar over the Jalur Gemilang is still ongoing, yet another upside-down flag has been spotted in Kuala Lumpur.

A TikTok video by @muhdfaiqzulhilmi has since gone viral, showing the Malaysian flag hung incorrectly outside a restaurant on the second floor of a building, just above a bar.

“The public should correct it themselves”

After the incident, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil urged the public to take the initiative to fix any mistakes with the flag display and avoid acting outside the law, according to Sinar Harian.

“If we see the Jalur Gemilang hoisted the wrong way, let the authorities handle it or at the very least, as Malaysians, we should give advice or correct it ourselves,” Fahmi said.

Responding to Fahmi’s remarks, UMNO Youth Chief Dr Akmal Saleh fired back, calling on the minister or DAP to take responsibility for correcting the Jalur Gemilang themselves.

“The public might end up being prosecuted”

In a Facebook post, Akmal sarcastically remarked that if the responsibility were left to the people, they risk facing action or even prosecution by certain parties.

“As long as there’s no firmness and no punishment for these disrespectful people, the flag will never be respected. This is our country, and it must be respected,” he wrote.

He also threw in another jab, saying that if the local authorities handed out punishment, there would still be groups complaining and demanding it be withdrawn.

“Please tell the minister or DAP to come down and fix this flag themselves. If the people do it, they might end up being prosecuted. If the local authorities (PBT) impose punishment, then there will be groups who are dissatisfied and demand that the punishment be withdrawn.”
