Accidents occur unexpectedly and it is always better for people to know what to do to prepare themselves for such situations!

Public Health Malaysia has shared a post on 1st August 2020 on what to do if any of your body parts is accidentally cut off. Be it your ear, finger or other limb parts, the first step is to not panic! We understand its easier said than done, especially with the pain. But please do try to calm down and proceed with the next steps.

Finger

Firstly, ensure that the body part that was cut off is cleaned thoroughly. Then, wrap it in wet cotton.

Next, put it into a dry plastic bag and tie it all up. Put the plastic bag containing your body part into another plastic bag filled with ice cubes and bring it along with you to the hospital as soon as possible.

Remember to keep your injured limb raised (that is still connected to your body), where possible, up to or above the heart level to prevent massive loss of blood.

In addition to that, please also remember that:

  • Do not put the dislocated body part in water.
  • Do not put it onto ice cubes directly.
  • Do not apply any ointment or cream (such as toothpaste etc).

Of course, prevention is better than cure but when the situation comes, do not panic and just follow these steps shared by Public Health Malaysia!
