By now, you should have heard of the central database called PADU which will be launched on January 2.
According to BERNAMA, PADU is a central database hub that will integrate data on Malaysians from different ministries and departments (education, higher education, national registration department and utility companies).
Once this database is launched, Malaysians can update and verify 39 pieces of personal information until March 31, 2024 for targeted subsidy re-identification.
Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli has said that although the government already has all the information, users need to ensure that the information is up-to-date.
“Although in the government’s database, there is already an assignment of what their income is, based on whatever information we have, which we just need to validate and update.”
“It is not like that information is not already there; it already exists, and then the algorithm will match, so from there, we will have different classes of household profiles,” he continued.
The minister also clarified that PADU will not be integrated with bank information systems as banks have the Financial Services Act, which does not allow sharing such data.
Other than that, Rafizi adds that the government will not act on those who choose not to update their information on PADU.
“So if you do not update, no issues but if you do not get it (subsidies), do not get upset.”
Well, the first 3,000 people who register and update their information on PADU will get a free TnG NFC card, and there will also be exclusive discounts for registered users at Mydin (TBA). So we’ll be registering!
