So, the state elections for Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan have finally concluded over the weekend and the results are out. In the elections, Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA)’s 19 candidates were defeated in all the seats they contested for.
MUDA’s president, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, has since shared that he takes full responsibility for the loss, adding that it is a maturing experience for them.
Following this, Selangor DAP Wanita secretary Nalina Nair took to her Twitter page to call for Syed Saddiq to step down from his role in MUDA to give way for someone else to take on the mantle.
She wrote, “MUDA lost ALL their deposits. Only right for the (unelected) President, Syed Saddiq, to resign for such a defeat and finally have party elections to elect a new president and central executive committee.”
This left netizens divided as some agreed with her while others believe that he has more work to do with MUDA.
“Petition for Syed Saddiq to resign! MUDA can go further without him.”
Some also shared that the statement was hypocritical and called for Nalina Nair to focus on her own coalition.
So, what do you think? Do you agree with Nalina Nair’s statement or do you think Syed Saddiq should be given the freedom learn from MUDA’s mistakes and build his party?
Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
