Just today, it was reported that PAS is organising a fundraiser for their member, Kepala Batas MP Siti Mastura, after she lost an RM825,000 defamation suit for claiming that Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng had family ties to the Communist Party of Malaya (CPM) leader Chin Peng, in addition to accusing Teresa Kok of having ties to Lim.
Many called them out for attempting to raise funds over the consequences of the Kepala Batas MP spreading lies.
“You have already defamed people, and then you want to collect money to pay for the lawsuit. Why should other people help support your slander?” one netizen wrote.
Why can’t PAS do it when DAP did it before?
In response to this, another netizen, Tokwan Hang, is now turning the tables by pointing out that DAP member Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng had also raised funds in the past to settle a defamation suit that he had lost.
He wrote, “You can’t act like you’re holy. This DAP MP also collected donations to pay for his defamation suit. He even collected RM2.5 million. What’s there to be ashamed of if DAP can do it? Don’t tell me that it’s a sin only when other parties do it.”
*Correction: Lim Lip Eng collected RM2.25 million, not RM2.5 million.
Lim Lip Eng had lost a defamation suit to e-commerce firm Monspace (M) Sdn Bhd and their founder, Jessy Lai.
He had been ordered by the High Court in March 2023 to pay for damages and costs amounting to RM2.5 million, to which the public had donated to the point where Lim Lip Eng had to request for people to stop as he had received the targeted amount.
