Covid-19: Panic Buying Surges Throughout M’sia As PM Announces Movement Controlled Order
Since the controlled movement order, Malaysian citizens have gone on an all time panic buying spree for fear of leaving their homes, hoarding supplies for the the future.
According to Sinchew, in Ipoh, after the PM declared restricted movement within the country, markets in Perak were filled up instantly the next day (17th March). Based on the write up, there was a huge crowd of people buying vegetables, meat and eggs. Some even arrived as early as 4am and by 9am, everything was almost wiped out completely. People described the crowds being three times more than the goods that were sold.
Although supermarkets and emporiums will still be opened during this controlled movement period, many are panicking and clearing out all food items completely as a means to stock up. There have been long queues everywhere and empty shelves countrywide since last night (16th March). Here are some pictures of how scared Malaysians are becoming.
