A video of a cop assaulting a motorcyclist made its way to social media and has been gaining lots of views these past few days. The incident happened at 1.40am last Sunday (2 December) at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC).
The 48-second video shows the policeman aggressively attacking a motorcyclist who apparently crashed into a restaurant after being tailgated by a patrol car for driving at a high speed against traffic.
“We received reports that a group of motorcyclists were riding their vehicles dangerously near the flyover of PICC. A police patrol car went to investigate and managed to tail one of the riders,” said Putrajaya OCPD Asst Comm Rosly Hassan.
“The rider lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the restaurant and fell on the floor,” he added, according to The Star.
The motorcyclist apologized continuously while the policeman hit him, dragged him by the hair and shoved him to the ground. At the end of the video, the cop can be heard insisting for the footage to be deleted, as reported by Berita Harian.
Rosly Hassan said a summons was issued to the motorcyclist for riding without a valid driving license, road tax and a license plate.
The motorcyclist is being investigated for reckless riding and endangering the personal safety of others under Section 279 and 336 of the Penal Code respectively. Meanwhile, the policeman is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
