We’re pretty sure most of you have heard about the Sambal Nyet Berapi copycat that’s been making the rounds on social media. If you’re not up to speed on this, here’s the scoop.

Influencer @khairulaming has spoken out on TikTok, revealing their intention to file a lawsuit against the owner of Sambal Nyet Khairi. Their lawyer has already sent a letter demanding they stop infringing on Intellectual Property Rights and engaging in Passing Off.

In the video, he explains that they’ve outlined eight specific demands. If the copycat doesn’t comply with these requirements, they intend to escalate the matter further.

It’s also worth noting that Sambal Nyet has been officially trademarked at MyIPO and received approval on November 2, 2021.

Khairul Aming posted pictures of the Sambal Nyet Khairi packaging, which closely mirrors his own product, down to the smallest details.

“We acquired Sambal Nyet Khairi to identify the seller and, consequently, the owner. Upon examining the packaging, ingredients, product description, as well as customer service information and postcards, we found striking similarities.”

He is taking extra steps to offer advice to business owners, particularly those running small businesses, to consider trademarking their businesses if they have the means to do so. Registering a trademark helps protect their businesses, ensuring that others cannot misuse it in the future.

“I’m all for supporting small businesses, but it’s important to conduct business ethically and wisely. Treating people poorly isn’t the way to go.”

Netizens quickly jumped in to share their thoughts and experiences after some of them had fallen for the copycat sambal.

“I’m among those affected by Khairi’s product. Having already purchased it, I have no choice but to eat it.”

“I’m among the victims. Initially, I believed the sambal was Khairul Aming’s, but soon realised it’s actually Khairi’s.”

@khairulaming

Berkenaan dengan isu Sambal Nyet ciplak semalam, kita telah pun mengenal pasti penjual tersebut dan peguam kita telah pun menghantar letter of demand for Infringement of Intellectual Property Rights and Passing Off.
