Popular British alternative rock band Coldplay has been touring the globe under their Music of the Sphere World Tour, including making their first-ever visit to Malaysia on 22 November 2023 to a sold-out concert at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.

While the band only performed for one night in Malaysia compared to multiple shows in other countries such as Singapore, the Kuala Lumpur show was noteworthy for breaking the record of the most-attended concert at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium with over 75,000 in attendance.

The most-attended Coldplay concert in the band’s career so far

Fast forward some 3 months later, the true scale of Coldplay’s debut concert in Malaysia has just been revealed, as the Kuala Lumpur concert was actually a significant milestone for the musical group.

As revealed by the Coldplay Charts X account, the Malaysian stop for the Music of the Sphere World Tour was the most-attended concert of Coldplay’s career, with a whopping 81,812 tickets sold!

Moreover, the Kuala Lumpur concert also grossed an astounding USD10,904,369 or approximately RM51,953,866!

Do note that Coldplay had previously headlined other musical festivals around the globe with more attendees, but as far as standalone concerts go, the Bukit Jalil National Stadium concert recorded the highest attendance as per tickets sold.

For comparison, Coldplay’s recent concert at the Tokyo Dome in Japan sold 97,627 tickets in total, meaning that the Kuala Lumpur concert almost matched the attendance for the 2-day show in a single show.

Did over 81,000 people attend the Bukit Jalil National Stadium concert?

However, do take this with a grain of salt as the official attendance of the Coldplay concert at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium was never revealed, just that the show garnered over 75,000 attendees.

Furthermore, it is worth noting that the 81,812 tickets sold don’t necessarily translate to the same number of people attending, as some might buy the tickets but didn’t manage to attend.

With that being said, we might just have to update our previous article regarding Kuala Lumpur having one of the lowest return rates for the return of Coldplay’s LED wristbands based on the new figure.

Given that the rate was between 90% and 91%, should 81,812 concertgoers attend the Coldplay show as claimed, it now means that a minimum of 7,363 people and a maximum of 8,181 people didn’t return the wristbands after the concert.

So, what do you guys think of Coldplay’s most-attended concert so far being in Kuala Lumpur? Share your thoughts with us in the comments!
