A woman in China went viral after posting a photo on social media showing three men pushing a car along the road, claiming they did so after a night of drinking.

She later explained that the trio allegedly chose not to drink and drive, saying they were being law-abiding by opting to push the vehicle home instead.

According to Kwong Wah, one of the men was seen steering the car from outside the driver’s seat while the other two pushed from behind.

The post quickly went viral, sparking discussion among netizens and catching the attention of the police.

After reviewing CCTV footage, authorities discovered that the men had pushed the car for nearly 500 metres before stopping near a car repair shop.

“Despite not drinking and driving, the act is still illegal”

Police clarified that since no one was actually behind the wheel, the incident didn’t technically qualify as drunk driving. However, they emphasised that the act was still illegal.

According to Article 31 of the Road Traffic Safety Law of the People’s Republic of China, no individual or organisation is allowed to occupy the road for non-traffic-related activities without proper authorisation.

It was also reported that during the incident, the car was pushed along both motor vehicle and non-motor vehicle lanes, an act that falls under the offence of illegally occupying the road for non-traffic purposes.
