Due to its popular demand and being a seasonal item, the prices of durians vary but they are mostly pricy, depending on the variety that you’re looking for. Apparently, there is a place in PJ where you can pay less for more durians.
That’s according to a vlogger from China who claimed that she paid a total of RM200 for 11 durians at a durian stall in SS2. In other words, it means that each durian costed her only less than RM20. With four RM50 notes in her hand, she asked the vendor how much and which kind of durians she could get for that price.
The vendor started by cutting open a Red Prawn Durian, for which he charged her RM10.
The TikToker then asked about the King of all durians – Musang King, which was sold at RM100 for 3. And the vendor even gave her one on the house!
By that time, she already had a lot of durians in her basket, or precisely – 11 durians.
“RM200 for a basket full of durians. Thank God I go to the gym often,” she said.
Despite the cheap price, did the durians come as advertised? She described the experience of buying durians as “opening Pandora’s box”, and it’s all about luck. As for her, she was definitely in luck as most of her durians came with huge fillings, which she enjoyed and said,
“Some of them tasted milky, but I prefer Musang King to others.”
“We don’t buy your story”
Her experience was shared on Douyin and it quickly gained the attention of many Malaysians, who claimed that she was not being entirely honest about the pricing.
A netizen claimed that she was being paid to do marketing for the vendor.
“I’ve stayed in KL for so long, and all I know is everything in SS2 is expensive. Tell us, how much did you get paid?”
“Judging from his looks, he usually does not seem friendly.”
“The internet has really taken away humanity. Why are you not telling the truth?”
“Aren’t you lying? Fake marketing. It’s obviously not just RM200.”
“Someone used to tell me there was a place that sells durians for only RM2 each. I went to that place, and got charged RM10 each.”
“This price for 11 durians, including Musang King and Black Thorn? I’ve stayed in SS2 for decades, do you think I’ll fall for that?”
If you’re staying near SS2 or within Klang Valley, what do you think of the price? Can we really buy that many durians for only RM200?
