Birthdays are a joyous occasion, and nothing feels better than knowing all your loved ones care for you enough to celebrate you. Just recently, a woman has shared her rather unfortunate experience on Dcard.
In her post, she mentioned that she has been with her boyfriend for 4 years and this is the first time where they’re celebrating a birthday with cake.
“We’ve been together for 4 years and I thought I wanted to give him a different birthday experience this year, which is why I bought him a cake.”
“He even sent me over to the bakery to get the cake and he was aware that we will be heading to HaiDiLao as a part of his celebration”, she said.
She then mentioned that when they were almost done with their meal, the HaiDiLao staff proceeded to bring the cake out along with their Birthday neon signs and a complimentary fruit platter.
“When my boyfriend saw the staff coming over to our table, he shouted at them twice asking them to not sing the birthday song. The staff just awkwardly placed the cake and fruit platter down and walked away”, she added.
She expressed how it was very embarrassing as customers from other tables were looking at them and she just couldn’t control it and cried.
“I just don’t understand why he couldn’t be more friendly about it. It’s a birthday celebration, why did he have to yell at the staff and make this birthday celebration a flop?”, she mentioned.
Following the incident, many netizens expressed their sympathy and here’s what some of them said:
“If he doesn’t like it, he can just quietly tell the staff that he doesn’t want it. Why does he have to shout when he knows he is at a public space.
Is this because he has some traumatic past? If it’s because he just doesn’t like it, then he has some serious issues of not being able to control his emotions.”
“Which part of the story does the BF shows that he loves her? I think if he could shout at workers like these, he must have serious anger issues.”
“I think no matter how much you dislike something; you should still act accordingly. You should also care about your partner’s feelings. I would’ve just waited until they finished singing and then tell my partner privately that I would appreciate if they stopped doing this. If you just shout in public, I’d feel super embarrassed.”
It’s always great to communicate with your partner from time to time and make sure that both of you are aware of each other’s boundaries. One should also exercise patience and kindness to other people, especially restaurant workers as they would have to go through a lot during their shift.
