A netizen by the name of Mohd Fadhil Othman has warned his fellow netizens to be wary when receiving video calls from unknown numbers.

In his Facebook post, Fadhil states that everyone has to be careful when receiving any video calls on any applications from numbers that they do not know.

Fadhil states that there have been a few cases where unsuspecting female victims were targeted. When they pick up the video call, a person’s butthole will be on the screen. The trickster behind the unknown number will then take a screenshot of that moment.

The suspect will then use the picture to blackmail the victims for money and threaten to post the picture online if the victims do not comply.

In order to avoid that from happening, Fadhil has shared a few tips.

  • Make sure you know who the caller is.
  • If you want to pick up the video call, close the front camera completely with your finger first. Only remove said finger when you have made sure that the person is really someone you know.
  • Report to MCMC via this link if you are a victim in this blackmailing situation.

Even though technology has advanced to make our lives easier, it can always backfire. We should always be very careful when we’re online!
