Recently, brands such as Mixue and Zus Coffee have been spotted at Ramadan bazaars where, oftentimes, only small vendors are available. This has left vendors unhappy, as many believe that big brands should not be allowed to sell at bazaars, as it could affect business.
However, not everyone feels the same.

Should big brands be allowed to sell in bazaars?
Influencer and teacher Mohd Fadli Salleh took to his Facebook page to ask the general public what they think about big brands opening stalls at Ramadan bazaars. This led many to share their belief that the presence of big brands may create healthy competition.

Mohd Fadli Salleh wrote, “Many traders complained when big brands entered Ramadan bazaars. As traders, they feel that their sales may be reduced. Zus Coffee’s (drinks) are priced at RM3.90 only. Other traders usually sell for RM5 to RM8. Indeed, other drink sellers have lost some customers. So, they complained about this.”
“But, that’s from the traders’ point of view. From the consumer’s point of view, do you agree or disagree with brands like Mixue and Zus Coffee entering Ramadan bazaars?”
It’s healthy competition!
Many have since shared their belief that small vendors deserve some healthy competition, as many sell overpriced drinks that are often watered down and tasteless.

“Let those who sell expensive drinks feel railroaded. They’re selling at hefty prices but their drinks are watered-down. One cup for RM8. It’s better to buy Mixue’s lemonade that’s only RM3.50.”

“It’s healthy competition, so it’s okay. If (big brands) can sell at prices like RM3.90, what is the excuse of other vendors who price their drinks at RM7 to RM8? Consumers also have a right to choose.”

“I agree with this as they set the benchmark for cheap drinks. Vendors often sell watered down drinks but with prices that don’t make sense.”

“It’s good to have competition. Then vendors won’t be able to sell at cut-throat prices.”
