Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook today iterated that the Government will continue with the implementation of digital driving licenses and road tax in our country and will not be reviewing it, though road users can still print them.
Speaking at the Dewan Rakyat, Loke also revealed that starting next year, his Ministry will implement an initiative in which you can get a physical card for your driving license, though it may cost you more.
The MyJPJ app has over 10 million active users and generated RM121 million in revenue
The Transport Minister was replying to a question by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ledang, Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh, who wanted to know the effectiveness of the digital driving license and road tax, as well as the savings going digital has generated.
Loke said that the MyJPJ app has been downloaded by over 13.7 million users since its launch some 2 years ago.
Moreover, the number of users who registered for JPJeID is 10.7 million, meaning that the MyJPJ app has more than 10 million active users currently.
The Transport Minister added that as of 31 October 2024, MyJPJ had recorded revenue of almost RM121 million from users renewing their road tax documents and driving licenses through the app.
He thus lauded the effectiveness and efficiency of going digital and mentioned that there are indeed savings generated from not having to print physical driving licenses.
You may have to pay for a physical driving license card starting next year
However, Loke asserted that there are still complaints from the public who still want physical driving licenses and road tax documents.
Loke, who is also Seremban MP, then announced that his Ministry would improve on this matter and that next year, an initiative will be launched for anyone who wants to print a physical driving license card, though this may incur a cost to be paid by the user.
He asserted,
“Early next year, we will announce an initiative for anyone or any parties who want to print their physical driving license. They may have to pay for the printing of the physical cards.”
However, Loke didn’t elaborate on the cost that users have to pay to get the physical driving license card or any other details about the initiative.
