Most of the time, when you watch food reviews by influencers, you’ll notice how the influencers tend to shove their cameras in the faces of the staff working at the eatery.
And while some of these influencers are actually hired by the eatery owner and have permission to record the staff, many others actually do this in their own volition for the sake of content.
A Malaysian server recently took to the SecretsMy Twitter page to anonymously call out influencers for recording servers without their permission, for food and drink content.
They wrote, “Public service announcement (PSA)! Can these sisters and brothers who think they are TikTok influencers STOP taking photos and videos of servers, baristas and waiters faces while they are serving you food and drinks, without their consent?”
They went on to explain that they find it bothersome to constantly have cameras shoved in their faces (especially when they’re just trying to do their jobs), and then later finding their faces in random videos online.
“It’s annoying because we’re trying to serve and suddenly the customer is shoving their damn phones in our faces for their so-called content.”
“I’m scrolling through TikTok and suddenly my face shows up, like please ask for consent before taking a server’s picture or video,” they added.
It really is common courtesy to ask someone for their consent before you record them for any purposes.
What do you think about this server’s plea for their privacy to be respected? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
