A recent case has drawn attention after officers from the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) raided a house in Kuala Terengganu following a public tip-off about suspected drug abuse.
According to AADK, during the raid, officers found a man in his 30s (Person Suspected of Drug Abuse 1, or OYDS 1) asleep in a bedroom. Preliminary investigations found that he was living at the house with his brother (OYDS 2).

A one-year-old baby was found during the raid
While conducting checks, both brothers displayed suspicious behaviour and were taken for urine screenings, which later confirmed that they had tested positive for drugs.
Officers also found OYDS 1’s one-year-old daughter in the bedroom. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had divorced his wife about a year ago.
“The toddler was eventually brought to the AADK office while officers tried to contact other family members. Several female staff members comforted and cared for the child, but she refused to be separated from her father. Her cries as she searched for the only person she knew were deeply moving for everyone present.
“This is not just the story of two individuals caught abusing drugs. It is also the story of a young child who became an innocent victim of the situation. In a home that should have been the safest place, drug abuse unfolded before the eyes of a child too young to understand what was happening,” the post read.

The father was detained
AADK stated that other family members eventually arrived at the office and took the child home, before later handing her over to her mother for full-time care.
Meanwhile, OYDS 1 was detained to allow AADK to continue its investigations and take action under the relevant laws.
“Drug abuse not only destroys the lives of those involved but also tears families apart and robs children of the chance to grow up in a safe, stable, and loving environment. Children do not choose to be born into such circumstances, yet they are often the ones who bear the deepest emotional scars from the decisions made by the adults around them.
“Every time someone chooses drugs, someone else becomes a victim. In this case, that victim is a little child who simply wanted love, protection, and a family capable of caring for her,” AADK said.
