In this era in the history of mankind, gathering in crowds is heavily frowned upon and the message is clear all across the globe – STAY AT HOME AND PRACTISE SOCIAL DISTANCING.

However, people in Washington, US are deliberately going out to mingle with people who are Covid-19 positive in hopes of speeding up the process of catching the virus and overcoming it.

According to The Straits Times, these “Covid-19 parties” were organised so that non-infected people could come and get infected to gain immunity from the virus. Director of community health for Walla Walla County, Meghan Debolt, learned of two such parties that happened in the area recently.

Two people who went to one of the parties that was attended by 20 others, have already gotten sick and tested positive for the virus. People like them have nullified the efforts of the authorities who are trying to contain the outbreak in the area.

“We want to be able to start to reopen our community,” Debolt said. “But if our community isn’t practicing proper physical distancing and social distancing guidelines, and they are intentionally trying to go and contract Covid-19, that sets us back pretty far from being able to open.”

She added that the two people who contracted the disease at one of the parties in Walla Walla were young and did not need medical attention. The two of them said that they figured they could recover quickly from the virus without acknowledging the fact that they could spread to other more vulnerable people.

“They feel really bad now, knowing that they put families and friends and others at risk,” Debolt said.

You mean they didn’t know they could pass the virus to others??

Additionally, the state’s secretary of health, John Wiesman said that it is unknown if people who recover from Covid-19 have long-term protection, reported NST.

“This kind of unnecessary behaviour may create a preventable uptick in cases which further slows our state’s ability to gradually re-open,” Wiesman said.

“There is still a lot we don’t know about this virus, including any long-term health issues which may occur after infection.”

Come on, guys. It has been more than five months since the virus has taken over the world. We do not need any more unintelligent activities happening, certainly not in places that are at the peak of the outbreak.
