UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh is STILL the Melaka State Executive Councillor (Exco) for Rural Development, Agriculture and Food Security, despite having tendered his resignation letter.

The matter was confirmed by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh yesterday (4 February), who pointed out that the matter had not yet been discussed with the Yang Dipertua Negeri Melaka Tun Dr Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam.

“There is still no final decision on whether it is accepted or rejected. However, until today, he is still carrying out his duties as an Exco,” Rauf said, as reported by BERNAMA.

With his post as state exco remaining, many have wondered if Akmal was never going to resign. The UMNO Youth Chief, however, has broken his silence over the matter to clear the air.

“I am a leader who walks the talk.”

In his social media video today (5 February), Akmal confirmed that he had submitted his resignation letter to the state’s Yang Dipertua through the Chief Minister of Melaka on 19 January.

However, both Yang Dipertua and Chief Minister were abroad on respective work trips, so no formal discussions have been held since his resignation.

Akmal explained that the appointment or release of Exco positions is subject to state institutions and can only be decided after official discussions are held between the relevant parties. However, he suggested that a discussion might take place this week on an unspecified date.

“I’m not the kind of leader who only talks but is afraid to make decisions.”

“I respect institutions. As long as there is no official decision, my Exco position can’t be vacated while waiting for a decision,” he said in his video.

Akmal also reiterated that he would respect the institutional process and wait for the official decision without making any speculation or hasty actions.
