Malaysian philanthropist Kuan Chee Heng, affectionately known as Uncle Kentang, is renowned for helping those in desperate situations. Recently, however, his generosity was met with betrayal after he opened his home to someone in need of shelter.

Unfortunately, it appears the individual took advantage of his kindness.

Taking to his Facebook page, Uncle Kentang shared how the person he had been sheltering stole from him, an act that has made him wary of allowing others into his private residence.

He wrote, “I protected her and sheltered her with my family’s approval. And she stole from my house. No more invitations to my house. There are good people, and there are rogues. So far, this lady has taught me a life lesson.”

“Some might comment that I am careless and stupid. But, in life, we are taught to be kind. Thank you for stealing; it has given me a lesson in life,” he added

Police intervention

Prior to this revelation, Uncle Kentang had posted that he had filed a police report, though he did not initially provide the context.

“Thanks to everyone who prayed for me. I thank all police officers, Social Welfare Department (JKM) officers, the OCPD, and everyone else. I have lodged a police report, and action will soon be taken. The rest, I leave to God and fate,” he shared.

Potential background of the incident

Just over a week ago, Uncle Kentang shared that he had, with his family’s permission, offered a room to a woman who had been assaulted and kicked out of her marital home by her husband on Chinese New Year’s Eve.

He clarified that he chose to bring her into his home to provide her with a sense of family during the festive season.

At the time, he stated, “We will house her temporarily and then place her in one of our RM1 houses. I will also seek my family’s approval for her to stay in one of our empty rooms so she can feel a sense of family.”
