As working Malaysians, we’re definitely familiar with the struggles of earning and saving enough money. Many people are resorting to career changes in hopes of getting better salaries. If you’re one of those people contemplating a career change, then this latest report could be very useful for you!

Recently, Jobstreet released their latest salary report for this year, which revealed some interesting findings regarding the industries that pay the highest salaries based on employees’ job levels.

Financial comparison website iMoney then broke down the data from this report and found that:

  • The highest paid industries were engineering, computer/IT, and healthcare
  • The lowest-paid ones were the hotel/restaurant, education/training, and admin/HR industries

On top of that, it was reported that the maximum average monthly salary in Malaysia is RM83,333 (who’s job is this?!). The median average is reportedly RM5,000, while the minimum is RM800.

What’s most interesting however, is the highest paid careers they found based on job level. Check it out!

 

1. Entry level

  • Engineering, Construction/Building/Engineering: RM5,533
  • Hotel/Restaurant, Consulting (Business and Management): RM5,100
  • Computer/IT Software: RM4,600

 

2. Junior executive

  • Computer/IT, Banking/Financial Services: RM6,500
  • Healthcare, Retail/Merchandise: RM5,950
  • Computer/IT, Chemical/Fertilisers/Pesticides: RM5,182

 

3. Senior executive

  • Sciences, Oil/Gas/Petroleum: RM28,250
  • Healthcare, Grooming/Beauty/Fitness: RM15,167
  • Engineering, Consulting (IT, Science, Engineering & Technical): RM11,333

 

4. Manager

  • Accounting & Finance, Gems/Jewellery: RM14,500
  • Engineering, Consumer Products/FMCG: RM14,500

 

5. Senior manager

  • Admin/HR, Construction/Building/Engineering: RM35,000
  • Services, Healthcare/Medical: RM27,500
  • Engineering, Semiconductor/Wafer Fabrication: RM27,500

 

On top of that, they also pointed out that salaries are typically higher if you work in more central regions in the country such as Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. We suppose that’s something important to consider when job-hunting as well.
