Regardless of what you do, safety ALWAYS comes first. With the recent attacks on multiple footballers, many have called for the matches to be postponed. Selangor FC has as a consequence backed out from a recent football match out of safety concerns.

The Malaysian Football League (MFL), however, was not happy with the decision and has since fined Selangor FC RM100,000, and the money will be donated to a charity in the future. It is also intended as compensation for losses incurred by MFL and Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) as the host team.

Sultan Selangor is well aware of the decision and Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah is ANGERED by MFL’s decision.

In an official statement posted on the Facebook page of the Selangor Royal Office, Sultan Selangor was blunt and straightforward in expressing his disappointment.

“Inhumane and decision made without compassion and responsibility. They did not take into account of the violence and injustice that happened recently.”

The Selangor ruler was also shocked and unhappy that the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) had not voiced out about the matter, and Sultan Idris was also angered that despite greenlighting the postponement of the match, it was refused by MFL.

“I granted the request for the postponement due to the shock and trauma suffered by the players after the multiple attacks. Instead, MFL awarded a 3-0 win and the trophy to the opponent.”

The Sultan also shared a brief history of himself being involved in football for over 2 decades – from 1968 to 1990, and shared that he had never seen such a disastrous situation.

“This sport is intended to unite people of all races but now, it’s tainted by violence. As if it’s not bad enough, FAM and MFL are not taking necessary actions to voice out about the violence. I’m baffled. Do they not have sympathy?”

Sultan also said that MFL’s action will only lead to criticisms and the loss of support from Malaysian football fans, as well as the tarnishing of its image.

What do you think of MFL’s decision to issue a fine to Selangor FC?
