Last month, it was reported that Malaysian football players were getting attacked by unknown parties, with Selangor FC’s Faisal Halim (also known as Mickey) getting splashed with acid while he was out with his wife and kids in Kota Damansara.

After over a month of recovery efforts, Faisal appeared in public for the first time following the attack in a special press conference at the Selangor FC Training Center, yesterday (June 13).

According to a post by Astro Awani, the footballer tearfully said that, because of the acid attack, he is willing to lose his income, give up his football career and move back to his hometown, to keep himself and his family safe.

“I am willing to lose my income of tens of thousands, to stop playing football, as long as I am safe and my whole family is safe.”

But, he has ultimately decided to keep playing football!

With the encouragement of Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar, Member of the Board of Directors of Selangor FC, he has chosen to continue to play football.

“But, what is encouraging is that Datuk promised me and my family by saying ‘Mickey, I know you are capable of moving forward and I guarantee your safety and the safety of your family‘. From there, I started feeling enthusiastic to continue with my passion in playing football again.”

“I told my wife, my family, my dad, my brothers, I don’t care, I’m willing to lose my salary of tens of thousands, I want to move back to my hometown, live a peaceful life. I can still work even if it’s for RM50 or RM100 a day, as long as my family is safe and I don’t have to live in fear. Because what happened to me is something I did not expect and cannot accept. My whole family is fearful. But, what gives me encouragement is when people pray for me,” he added.
