Kuala Lumpur’s Petaling Street Has Just Been Named the 6th Coolest Street in the World!

Kuala Lumpur has been ranked favourably in tourism-related rankings by various publications and organisations, including the 10th trending travel destination by TripAdvisor, the world’s 18th best holiday destination by a UK-based non-profit organisation and the world’s 6th most visited city by Travelness.

For tourists visiting Kuala Lumpur, one of the most unique places to visit in the bustling city has got to be Petaling Street. In fact, the famous street was recently honoured by the global magazine Time Out as one of the coolest streets in the world!

In the feature article, Time Out said that streets are the heart of local life and sought to list down the world’s coolest streets that are worth a stroll. 

The global magazine then narrowed down the selection by its global team of local expert editors and contributors to a definitive ranking of the best avenues, thoroughfares, backstreets and boulevards on the planet.

As you can see from the top 30 list above, Kuala Lumpur’s very own Petaling Street was named the world’s 6th coolest street by Time Out.

Elaborating on the choice for making Petaling Street 6th, Ng Su Ann, Time Out’s contributor from Kuala Lumpur said that Petaling Street, or Jalan Petaling as it’s known by locals is one of the city’s oldest streets and home to the city’s first Chinese settlers in the 19th century.

Ng added that over the last few years, Petaling Street has experienced a renaissance and that you can find Kuala Lumpur’s oldest temples next door to colonial shophouses housing the newest dining and drinking joints.
