As the flood crisis in many areas throughout Johor worsen, thousands of Malaysians have been left trying to figure out how to manoeuvre their daily routines in the process. With jobs, families, and so much more to attend to, many push through one of the worst floods to hit the nation.

However, a recent TikTok video uploaded by Bukit Permai state assemblyman Yang Berhormat Dato’ Haji Mohd Jafni Md Shukor to his page @mohdjafnimdshukor_ displayed just how clear those realities are for some Johorians.

In the clip, Dato’ Jafni shared a moment of him travelling to Seelong Road in Senai by car, coming across the overwhelmingly high water levels in the area due to the flash floods.

“The issue of flash floods at the road on the boarder of the Malaysian Public Works Department (JKR) in Kulai is currently under the supervision of engineers from the JKR Johor Bahru district near Hidayah Islamic School in Seelong,” wrote Dato’ Jafni in his post.

A moment in the clip that caught the attention of many, though, was when Dato’ Jafni spotted a resident walking through the road and in the flood waters. With water levels reaching the civilian’s chest, the man braved through the road while holding his personal belongings in the air, as to not get them wet.

Speaking to residents in the surrounding area, one man informed Dato’ Jafni that the road is the only exit for residents who live further inside, and that the Malaysian walking through the water is likely on his way to work, unable to use another road.

Walking across the road with a smile on his face, another man praised the man in the moment, as other Malaysians and officials gathered to aid in managing the surrounding area.

Drawing concern from many Malaysians, multiple users wished the people residing around Senai town well, and to take care of themselves. One user even wondered what may become of the stray animals around the area, bringing attention to people to hopefully provide them shelter as well.

“For some people, if the water level doesn’t go down, they will lose their job. May all your burdens be eased, brother,” wrote one user.
