Now, we’ve always wondered if it was possible to swim over to Singapore but deep down we all know that it might be impossible with the border control in Singapore.

However, it seems that one Indonesian man actually did it and managed to get into the country and stayed there for 10 months before getting arrested, reported CNA.

It is said that Muhammad Izal, 34, was banned from entering Singapore in May 2022 and a little bit more than 6 months after that, he attempted to enter the country again.

This time, he took a ferry from Batam, Indonesia, to Stulang Laut in Johor Bahru, Malaysia and stayed there for 2 nights.

Then he went to a beach and swam towards Singapore’s Pulau Ubin island while using a black trash bag as a floatation device.

He rested there for 30 minutes before resuming his swim to Changi Beach. He managed to reach the shore and stay in the country for 10 months before getting arrested.

It is said that Izal was at Woodlands Road when authorities asked for his documentation which he couldn’t produce. He was sentenced to 15 months of jail and 7 strokes of cane on 2 November.

Izal had previously been banned from entering Singapore in May 2022 after entering the country without a valid pass. Prior to that, there were 4 separate instances of immigration offences as well.

His last charge was in August 2021 for entering the country without a valid pass and returning after being removed from the country.

He was sentenced to a year’s jail and six strokes of the cane in September 2021 and released in April 2022. Izal was then banned and deported in May 2022.

We certainly hope that Izal would have learnt his lesson this time around.
