During the weekend, many Malaysians, especially those who visited the Good Vibes Festival (GVF) were shocked by the “stunt” pulled by Matty Healy, a UK singer-songwriter for the band 1975.

In a statement released by PDRM in Selangor recently, the police revealed they have received 3 reports from the public regarding the insensitive acts by Matty Healy on stage in front of the crowd. Following the viral incident, the Minister of Communications and Digital, Fahmi Fadzil immediately cancelled GVF and PDRM stated that they are in full support of Fahmi’s decision.

However, in another report, PDRM also said that as the band members have left Malaysia the same night they were asked to leave GVF (July 22), the police cannot take further action against Matty Healy and the other members of 1975.

Despite so, that does not mean investigations end there. PDRM confirmed that they are still working closely with the Ministry of Communications & Digital by contacting relevant parties and those who are involved to assist in the investigation. The matter is currently being investigated under these sections,

  • Section 509 of the Penal Code
  • Section 504 of the Penal Code
  • Section 14 Minor Offences Act

A recap of Matty’s insensitive “stunt”

Matty’s criticisms towards the government and the kiss that he shared with his male partner were probably the most talked about incidents on social media. In case you missed it, Matty smoked on stage and as if that was not a bad example, he also continuously spat on stage while giving his “speech”.

He was also allegedly drunk because he was seen carrying a bottle of alcohol while mumbling on the stage. That’s not all.

Matt grabbed one of GVF’s drone which flew close to him and slammed it on the ground before stomping on the device, causing damage to it.

Thanks to his misbehavior, GVF 2023 was officially cancelled before fans could enjoy the remaining 2 days of the show. Many food vendors were affected by the last minute cancellation.
