The animation industry in Malaysia has improved so much over the last 10 years and we’re so happy to see them get international recognition.

We’re not sure if you remember but back in early January, a Malaysian animation series, Mechamato managed to be nominated for an award at the Tokyo Anime Award Festival.

So, in order to win the award, we asked you guys to help by voting daily.

Guess what? The animation series managed to win over the other Japanese-produced anime and create history by being the first non-Japanese production to win the TAAF2023 Anime Fan Award!

According to the TAAF website, the fan award managed to garner a total of 183,364 votes and Mechamato accounted for 40,590 votes! That’s about 22% of the votes.

Mohd Nizam Abdul Razak, one of the co-founders of Animonsta Studios (the studio behind Mechamato) tweeted his appreciation towards the fans who helped them get the award.

“Mechamato was #1 for the Anime Fan Award at the Tokyo Anime Award Festival 2023! Thank you so much to all who voted and supported us.”

Fans also tweeted their congratulations to the animation studios. One of them was thankful that their vote managed to help the animation win the fan award while all the others were just happy that Mechamato won.

“Congrats sir and the team! You all deserved it!”

Mechamato Congratulations

Nevertheless, we wish Animonsta Studios and the production crew behind Mechamato a hearty congratulations!
