The landslide in Batang Kali near Genting Highlands trapped multiple victims, and as of 1 pm today (December 16), 61 victims were rescued, 16 were unfortunately dead, and another 17 victims were still not found.

Many Malaysians have since advised others NOT to visit hilly areas during the risky monsoon season, but the Minister of Housing and Local Government, Nga Kor Ming discovered a rather shocking truth about the place – Father’s Organic Farm.

“The place has been operating without license since 2020,” Ming said.

After the investigation, Ming also said that Father’s Organic Farm only had permission to operate as an organic farm and that no application for the campsite was made. If found guilty, a penalty of not more than Rm50,000 and imprisonment of not more than 3 years will be imposed under Act 133 (or Section 137 of the Street, Drainage, and Buildings Act 1974), as reported by Berita Harian.

In the meantime, campsites near high-risk areas, including waterfalls, riverbanks, and hill slopes will be checked and vacated to prevent history from repeating itself.

“All 155 local councils nationwide have been asked to check the risky areas to prevent another incident,” Ming said.

Ming also assured that rescue work will not stop until all victims are found and that the rescue teams are doing their very best.

Additionally, Ming also reminded everyone NOT to visit risky areas and safety should be prioritised at all times, especially during this school holiday season.

“Bring your children to a site where you feel safe so that the holiday and family bonding can be meaningful.”

Our condolences and prayers to the family members of the deceased. We hope that the necessary actions will be taken to prevent similar incidents from happening and do avoid risky areas during this rainy season where uncertainties and dangers lurk.
