Malaysians are surely well aware of how many unethical durian sellers have tried to scam us before. They would take low-grade durians and tried to sell them to us by claiming they were the Musang King species.

By now, most Malaysians already know how to differentiate genuine Musang King from other species.

However, it seems like there’s a new kind of durian scam happening in Singapore!

Mothership shared Eugene Lau’s Facebook post regarding a scam which almost happened to his very own wife. It was a normal day when all of a sudden a group of guys knocked on Eugene’s home.

At that time, Eugene was out at work while his wife was at home to answer the door. In his Facebook post, Eugene shared the frustrating incident.

He wrote,

“Some bastards came to our place today and tried to sell some durians to my wife for SGD15 (RM46) per durian, claiming that it was Musang King quality.”

“My wife agreed to buy some from them and they started opening up the durians.

“But before she knew it they told her that they had opened up 6 durians and wanted to charge her SGD15 per kilogram instead of per durian.”

Those awful men even insisted that the poor lady had misheard them! Maybe you guys also misheard your teachers in school, that’s why you all grew up to be such goons!

But these guys weren’t going to take no for answer.

“Next, they took out a weighing scale and wanted my wife to pay 385 bloody dollars (RM1,191)! That’s 23kg worth of durians! Where is the rest of my durians?!”

Surely these durians in the tupperware look like they came from 6 bloody durians.”

Thankfully, the lady was smart enough to not pay such a high price for nothing. She immediately called Eugene to help with this and Eugene responded by calling the police.

“The durian bastards must have sensed that something was wrong and told my wife that they will come back for payment later when the husband is back.

“Mind you, all this while they were standing outside my door refusing to leave as they had already opened up the durians, with a knife in their hand.

“I was already in rage mode and was picturing myself smashing the durian shells into their face, but too bad those bastards never came back for their money or durians.”

Ugh, I would love to smash some durian shells into their faces too. Jio me whenever you plan on doing that, Eugene.

Although Eugene’s wife did not fall for this trap, funnily enough, the police officer whom Eugene spoke to shared that his own mother had been scammed by people like them!

So, do take note of this, durian lovers. Though it happened in Singapore, we never know when those unethical durian sellers might learn this trick and do it right here in Malaysia too.

And it seems like these people target housewives and elderly people who are home alone during the day. So if you’re alone at home, try not to open your doors for strangers.
