If you or your family members are tested positive for Covid-19 and will be required to get yourselves admitted, do not panic! Here are some important reminders on what you should wear or bring to the hospital or quarantine centre.

The medical officer of Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah, Dr Ali Husain AK took to his Facebook account to share this vital message to the public. He listed 16 important items you should bring to the hospital or quarantine centre to ease things up.

1. Phone

Make sure to bring along your phone as well as the charger and power bank, so that you can contact whoever outside the centre/hospital if you have any needs.

2. Prayer mats and prayer garments (telekung)

According to Dr Ali, the floors are sometimes not clean, thus it will be easier to pray and worship with the prayer mats. The prayer garments (telekung) is not provided in most wards, so be sure to bring your own. You are advised to bring the Al Quran and tasbih as well.

3. Loose, relaxed clothes

Both men and women can bring simple T-shirts and long-sleeve T-shirts respectively. Do not need to bring formal clothes or dresses.

4. Avoid bringing/wearing tight pants

“For men, wearing tracksuit pants is enough. The sarong can be brought for worship. Women can also wear tracksuit pants or pyjamas,” Dr Ali stated. He also advised not to wear tight clothes like slim-fit pants or jeans, as it will make the blood taking procedure more difficult.

Most wards do provide patient uniforms, but you can prepare your clothes and pants just in case.

5. Toiletries

Bring your own shampoo, cleansers, toothbrush and toothpaste, as well as a towel. The hospital may not have enough towels to provide to the patients.

6. Clothes hanger

You are also recommended to bring two or three clothes hangers to hang your towel or sarong.

7. Medicine

Please do not forget to bring your medicine if it is mandatory for you to consume them every day. “Do not think that if you have Covid-19 then you do not need to take the medicine anymore ya,” Dr Ali added. It will be better if you have a list of your medical prescriptions, as the hospital can provide the medicine for you.

8. Underwears

Do prepare your own undergarments as the hospitals will not provide any underwear for the patients.

9. Cutleries

You are encouraged to bring your own water bottle, flask, food container, as well as spoon and fork. For the patients who need to take care of their child or baby, remember to bring milk and a milk bottle too.

10. Fan

According to Dr Ali, most wards do not have air conditioners, so it will be helpful if you bring your own small chargeable fan.

11. Snacks

You can bring your own snacks, such as biscuits or bread. However, do control your diet if you have diabetes, as many patients are being admitted to the “high blood sugar” ward.

12. Slippers

“This is a must, but do ensure that the slippers are not slippery to prevent falling in the bathroom. It is hard for people to notice if you are injured in the bathroom,” Dr Ali shared.

13. Torchlight

This is for you to find things more easily in the dark, as most wards will turn off the lights at night, and the light switch is usually far away.

14. Face Masks

Bring your own face masks. The hospital or quarantine centre will usually provide face masks, but do bring your own as they may not be enough.

15. Mosquito repellent

You are reminded to bring the spray or cream type of mosquito repellent. Most wards are hot and have a lot of mosquitoes, so it will be very helpful.

16. Entertainment

“Can bring books, tablets, cards or board games to kill time, but please do not turn the ward into a gambling centre,” Dr Ali said.

He also reminded those who will enter the hospital or quarantine centre to shower and wear clean clothes before entering. “You may arrive there between 2 to 5 in the morning, so if you have showered, you can directly go to sleep,” he added.

Dr Ali also urged the public to be organised, and help the elder family members with the items. Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Dr Ali hopes that the platform can help and inform more people with the important reminders. The frontliners are battling against the pandemic, so are the people. Take care, and stay safe.
