Malaysia has been privileged enough to have two local car brands, Proton and Perodua, and soon, we’ll also have our very first electric car.

As according to NextRift, a local electric car startup, EV Innovations, is preparing to bring electric vehicles to the local and ASEAN market with its MyKar project, and is said to retail less than RM50,000.

They have since signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and Iot Institute (MARii) as well as Ingress Corporation Berhad to further develop the project.

“While we have come a long way from our first proof of concept prototype, there is still quite a journey to go through in order to achieve our vision,” shared EV Innovations, adding that they are “open for partners who would want to make this dream a reality, be it an institutional strategy partner, or an individual retail investor that wants a piece of the Malaysian dream.”

The prototype EV is based on the Honda Jazz, to a certain extent, and EV Innovation’s goal is to build an EV that is “affordable, practical and easily integrated into the current Malaysian automotive ecosystem.”
