There are plenty of bazaars we are able to head to to indulge the amazing food, but with so many vendors, how sure are we that the food stall is hygienic?

Well, it seems that the Penang State Health Department (JKNPP) is taking measures to ensure food sold to the people are clean. Yay! It was reported that they have been issuing fines to vendors who use their handphone, wear a watch and/or accessories while dealing with food.

Last year alone, about 128 notices that total to RM18,200 worth of fines were issued to vendors who fail to follow these cleanliness guidelines. This guideline is listed in the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009.

As reported by Awani, some of the offences include the cleanliness of the premise, workers not having taken their anti-tifoid injections, and wearing inappropriate clothing when dealing with food.

Although there are regulations already set up, it’s said that vendors often turn a blind eye and do not adhere to it. This is super dangerous as you can easily contract bacteria and suffer from food poisoning!

So next time you head to your Ramadan bazaar, you may want to be wary of the stores you buy from!
