This seems like a good thing!

This week marks the beginning of several important events for Christians all around the world. During this holy week, Christians will attend church for two important events – which is Holy (or Maundy) Thursday and Good Friday – as they prepare for Easter (Sunday, 21 April 2019).

FYI, Holy or Maundy Thursday is observed to commemorate the Last Supper of the Apostles whereas Good Friday is to remember the crucifixion of Christ.

Therefore, since Good Friday is an important event for Christians, Putrajaya has agreed to give civil servants one day of unrecorded leave to observe the auspicious day, reported The Malay Mail.

According to a circular which was issued yesterday (17 April 2019) by Public Service Director Datuk Seri Borhan Dollah, civil servants who are entitled to the holiday are mentioned below:

  • All ministry secretaries-general
  • Federal department heads
  • State secretaries
  • Statutory bodies
  • Local authorities of the directive

In the statement, Borhan was quoted as saying,

“I am pleased to announce that the government has agreed that all public officers professing the Christian faith will be granted one-day unrecorded leave in conjunction with Good Friday celebrations beginning 2019 except for officers serving in states where Good Friday is a public holiday.”

If you didn’t know, Good Friday is actually a public holiday in Sabah and Sarawak.

Well, isn’t that great news!

On that note, if you know anyone who’s a Christian and works as a civil servant, don’t forget to share this article with them to let know about this new privilege.
